Lower Back Petrissage

Aim - kneading movements to manipulate and loosen the muscle fibres more.

  • With the heel of the hands, massage from the middle of the back outwards, just underneath the rib cage.
  • Apply gradually deeper pressure with the heel of the hands and light pressure as they return upwards to the middle again.
  • This technique is known as Ironing. With both hands massage backwards and forwards across the lower back.
  • The therapist can work from the bottom of the back upwards or just concentrate on the lower back.
  • Apply this technique for around 5 minutes, alternating with light stroking (above) occasionally.
